Vibrant Eyeshadow Colors Back in This Season

Filed under: Beauty Tips (General), Cosmetics, Beauty News — ProductAddiction @ 11:29 am

Well, it’s official, bright colors are officially “in” again this season for your eyes.  I personally am very excited!  Ever since the young age of 12 when my parents allowed me to start wearing makeup (boy they didn’t know the monster they’d create!), I’ve LOVED to wear brightly hued eyeshadows and eyecolors.  I’ve been lucky enough that my facial features and my skin type are very conducive to makeup, and boy have I revelled in that fact.

The colors you’ll be seeing a lot of are deep greens, vibrant and somewhat flashy blues, and lots of shimmery colors.  I just visited a Sephora store, and if you ever shop there and have been there recently you know what I’m talking about.

If you’re looking for brightly colored hues of eye makeup, try a tone that you know goes well with your skin tone in clothes, and translate that into your color choice for your eye colors.  For example, if you know you look terrible in blues, stay away from straight blues and opt for a smoky grey instead, which can be a great alternative to the popular blue hues now.

Dirt Cheap Teeth Whitening

Filed under: Miscellaneous "Fun Stuff", Beauty Tips (General) — ProductAddiction @ 9:24 am

I have a great tip for getting your teeth polished and whiter within a weeks time that is as old as dirt, but still works just as well as when my grandma told me about it.  Whitening your teeth with just plain baking soda is not only cheap, but it’s excellent for your mouth.  It is a natural antibacterial agent, and it is a great mouth deodorizer for your breath.

My dad actually uses baking soda instead of toothpaste, and he loves it.  I actually tried it the last time I was over his house and I have to say, it’s a little rough at first, but I swear it makes your mouth feel cleaner.  If you don’t like baking soda alone, but you still want a little extra polishing and whitening power for your teeth, try mixing about half toothpaste, half baking soda by dipping your toothbrush in a bag of baking soda.

I swear, you might get hooked!

Using White Eyeliner

Filed under: Miscellaneous "Fun Stuff", Beauty Tips (General), Cosmetics — ProductAddiction @ 1:04 pm

If you’ve read up on expert makeup tips on how to make your eyes look bigger and brighter, chances are, you’ve come across a tip to use white eyeliner on the bottom row of your lashes (bottom lid) for instant illumination and brightness. I have a white eyeliner, and I don’t use it often, maybe only for special occasions, but I do notice my eyes look a little more “eye catching” - they’re a little bigger and a little brighter, and it sets off the rest of my eye makeup nicely.

You can also use the white eyeliner on your top row, but only on the very outer part, or else you migth over do it.

Cover Girl Liquid EyeShimmers

Filed under: Cosmetics — ProductAddiction @ 7:57 am

OK, here’s my review of the Cover Girl “Cool Effects” liquid eye shimmery eyeshadow, and it’s not all that great I’m sorry to say. I think this may be one type of product that you have to spend a little more on for quality to get it to work right. I bought a light mocha color in the Cover Girl Cool Effects liquid eyeshadow, and was excited to try it. I’d never tried liquid eyeshadow, I’ve always been a powdered eyeshadow girl myself.

The liquid is about the consistency of a lighter foundation, and I only put a little on my finger because I wasn’t sure how far it would go. At first it seemed to go on slowly but then it seems to almost cake on my eye instantaneously. Not only that, when I tried to take it off and start over, it was difficult to remove it. I didn’t particularly care for the color I chose either, so I may not be giving this product a 100% fair review either, just to be fair I’ll mention that.

So I think that unless you are an experienced makeup pro or makeup artist, you may not be able to get the desired effect out of these liquid eyeshadows. Maybe if I would take a little more time to learn how to properly apply the liquid eyeshadow, I’d have better luck, but I think I’ll stick to my powder for now!

Cellulite Creams - Do They Work?

Filed under: Beauty Tips (General), Cellulite Treatments, Beauty News — ProductAddiction @ 9:02 pm

A lot of women wonder if these cellulite creams, that seem to be crowding the market every day, actually work to get rid of cellulite.  I, for one, am a faithful user of cellulite creams.  I try to use them daily, and I do notice that if I stop using my cellulite cream, the inevitable bumps and spongy look come back.  Over the next few posts, I’ll start to tell you about the myriad of cellulite creams I’ve used - which ones I liked and worked, and which ones I pretty much tossed in the garbage after a week.  Coming Up!

Why I Love Revlon SkinLights

Filed under: Cosmetics — ProductAddiction @ 9:50 am

Let me reiterate - I love Revlon’s Illuminating addition to my foundation, called SkinLights. What SkinLights is, is actually a line of foundations and illuminators by Revlon that actually help to deflect light off the skin in a flattering way, making the skin have somewhat of a glow and a natural radiance that it doesn’t normally have.

What I do is I mix this light liquid with my foundation, about half and half, but in the summer I go a little heavier on the skin lights and a lot lighter on the foundation, since I usually have a little more natural color from sun exposure in the summer to begin with.

What does it cost?

Depends on where you get it. I usually find it for about $12, and the tube is pretty big, so it lasts me at least 6 months usually. I actually find that I buy a tube earlier than that, unless I use the tube that goes down in the liquid to scrape out the bottom stuff. If you do that, it’ll probably last you more than 6 months! It’s available in the link to the right - actually almost everything is available there..

Clinique Skin Care

Filed under: Skin Care Product Reviews — ProductAddiction @ 12:47 pm

I have a friend who swears by the Clinique family of skin care products. So one day I went with her to Kaufmann’s and was talked into picking up a whole set of Clinique skin care. The set (bak then at least) came with a HUGE bar of soap that lasted me about six months, a toner and a moisturizer that was yellow in color and had SPF. The moisturizer was ok, but what I really like were the toner (or astringent whichever you call it) and the facial cleansing bar.

The cleansing bar was not too drying and had a pleasantly, lightly perfumed scent to it. And the toner was the same. I only used the toner at night, not in the morning, as I’m always afraid I’ll dry my skin too much if I use an astringent twice a day. Overall I definitely liked the Clinique skin care system, although I could take or leave the moisturizer. I think the key to having success with this skin care system is choosing the set that is right for your skin type.

What’s New at Mac

Filed under: Cosmetics — ProductAddiction @ 10:21 am

I love Mac makeup.  One of my best friends introduced me to a few of their items - namely my favorite, Mac Lip Glass and Lip Gloss.  After going to the makeup counters at Nordstroms tonight with that very same friend, I noticed the amount of eyeshadow colors that Mac has to offer seems to have exploded.

I must have counted at LEAST 50 different shades of eyeshadow all lined up under the little beakers, in their pristine grey paper boxes.  They ranged in colors that were very rich and vibrant pigments to more of a shimmery, subtle type of color.

One this I love about the Mac makeup counter is that the girls that work at it are always wearing some of the most fun colors.  Today the woman was wearing an electric blue, and what looked like a charcoal color eyeshadow blended flawlessly (of course, she’s a Mac makeup artist).

I also noticed that they were having some sort of promotional charity deal with the Viva Glam colors, which are very sex kittenish (Pamela Anderson is the spokesmodel apparently, she posed on the front of the promotion with a shimmery rock star type outfit on and her signature HEAVY makeup and penciled on eyebrows) and very pink and shimmery.  I didn’t notice any new products that stood out as brand new though.

Oh, did I mention I also love the Mac clear eyebrow gel?  It keeps my eyebrows in line, and then I line them with a soft brown pencil where I may have plucked them unevenly.  I cannot live without the brow gel!

Smooth Hair Tip

Filed under: Miscellaneous "Fun Stuff", Beauty Tips (General), Hair Care — ProductAddiction @ 7:59 am

Hey guys.  I have used this tip for keeping hair smooth and breakage free overnight for years now, and found it a really useful defense against night time breakage from tossing and turning, as well as a great weapon against “bedhead” in the morning.

Use a satin pillow case!  I’ve used a satin, or “hair saver” sateen (fake satin, works the same) pillowcase now for years, and I can’t tell you what a difference it makes in my hair in the morning, especially if you wash your hair at night and need it to stay as smooth as possible during those nights when you know you’re going to toss and turn.

Hair stylists and experts also recommend using a satin pillow case as a defense against breakage and “roughing up” the cuticle as some scratchier pillow cases are known to do, instead of breaking or getting rough, the cuticle slips right off the satin which equals better hair for you!

Satin pillow cases are available at Amazon too for cheap, which there is a link to above in this weblog.

L’Oreal Lash Out Mascara : MY FAVORITE!

Filed under: Miscellaneous "Fun Stuff", Cosmetics — ProductAddiction @ 10:29 pm

If someone asked me what cosmetic product would I take with me if I could only take one on a long trip would be, it would be my precious mascara.  L’Oreal Lash Out mascara that is, in midnight black.  This mascara, for me, has outperformed even $20 and $30 high end masacaras by far. I’ve tried many of them - even that Maybelline stuff - Great Lash in the green and pink tube, which is supposed to be the best selling mascara of all time, and I hated it.  I’ve always gone back to L’Oreal Last Out.

Here’s what I like about Lash Out:

It goes on smooth, not clumpy, unless it’s gotten too old and you need to buy yourself a new tube.

Lash Out is fairly inexpensive, at about $6 a tube at Walmart of Target.

It really does lengthen, lengthen, lenthen your lashes

It really does fatten your lashes

It stays put

I’ve gotten tons of comments on my eyelashes, and I think L’Oreal Lash out mascara is the reason why.  By far and away, this is the best mascara I’ve ever used, and I’ll always use it!
