Acetone vs. Non-Acetone Nail Polish Remover

Filed under: Cosmetics — ProductAddiction @ 12:41 pm

Back in the day when I actually had time to paint my finger nails all of the time, or go “get my nails done” at the salon, I paid a lot of attention to what was good and bad for my nails. Now, I’m lucky to just get a clear coat of polish on my fingers a couple times a year it seems.

I paid a lot of attention to the acetone vs. non-acetone controversy in the nail health world because acetone nail polish remover was supposed to be very harsh to your nails and skin, making your nails dry out more readily. Although acetone worked much better than non-acetone remover back then, and was much faster, it still got a bad rap for being too harsh and drying.

Well now it seems things may have changed a bit. The non-acetone nail polish removers seem to have improved greatly, and they work almost as fast as the type with acetone in them. I bought the bottle I have now and it’s lasted me forever.

I do have to wet the cotton swab a bit more often and make it more concentrated, but I’m not bothered by it’s lack of effectiveness like I used to be. It takes it right off, although it may take just a few extra swipes. I’d say that’s a small price to pay for having healthy nails and skin.
