Pressed or Loose Powder?

Written on December 6th, 2006 by ProductAddictionno shouts

My vote on this question is that everyone should choose loose powder to help calm down oiliness and create a nice, translucent “flawless” finish to their makeup, but some makeup experts say that choosing loose or pressed powder should depend on the look you are trying to achieve. For example, if you are looking for a less “done” look, and more of just a quick, sheer finish, loose powder gives a more natural, less put together look (supposedly, but I beg to differ).

If your looking for a more matte, finished look, supposedly a pressed powder in a compact applied with a powder puff or some other more solid application tool (just not a brush), will give you the more finished, put together, matte look you are going for. The reason I tend to push for loose powder is I guess pressed compact powder to me is reminiscent of the eighties, when women would go around with a different colored face than their neck because they had used a pressed powder on their face, which tends to overdo it.

A brush applied loose powder just tends to give a more even application, and tends to be easier to control. You dip your brush in and get just what you want on it, not a thick coating which is what you may end up with when applying a pressed powder with a sponge or buff (it kind of looks like you overapplied self tanner when this happens). Also, you can still used a loose powder throughout the day. I take my Bare Minerals with me (they’re the small ones), and a little brush to touch up if I need it, and if I remember!

Sauna Time and Your Skin

Written on December 4th, 2006 by ProductAddictionno shouts

I’ve been really, really good about going to the gym lately.  Another good thing is that I’ve been hitting the sauna afterwards to relax my muscles and also to help clear and soothe my skin.  I’ve found the sauna really helps clarify my skin, and it gives it a moisture boost, especially if I add spoon of water to the lava rocks to make a moist mist.

Every time I go in it, I  notice my skin has a pleasant color to it the rest of the day, and it really helps to clear my complexion if I have any blemishes.  It seems to open the pores up really well, as I also noticed my blackheads seemed to be more easily extracted after a visit to the sauna.

Just be careful not to overstay your welcome in a sauna.  Ten minutes should be fine, but any more may actually be too much intense heat for your skin.  Not only are they relaxing, sauna’s are my new favorite skin care “accessory”!  One note though, if you have serious skin disorders, saunas may not be the best thing for your skin.  People with rosacea, for example are warned to stay away from extreme heat.

Anti Aging Products Booming Business

Written on December 2nd, 2006 by ProductAddictionno shouts

If you think anti aging products both in the beauty and health arena are a booming industry now, wait until we reach the middle of this millenium.  With people living longer and the focus on health an beauty stronger than it ever was, showin no signs of slowing, experts are predicting that the anti aging industry will be stronger than ever by the middle of this century.

Why?  Because nearly one million Americans will be turning 100 years old by the year 2050 as predicted by these same experts, and this means a huge opportunity between now and then to market skin care products for wrinkles and anti aging, anti aging supplements, vitamins, health plans and books, and advanced health and medical care products that are natural or herbal in nature.

The anti aging business has grown an estimated 50% since the early beginning of this new century, and is estimated to keep growing, almost doubling in size again, over the next ten years as the focus on anti aging health and awareness continues, and people are more willing to spend their money on products that are going to make them healthier and more able to get around and enjoy a higher standard of life, and other things such as preserved their natural beauty and youthful looks longer.

I know I myself have spent tons of money on anti aging skin care thus far, and I haven’t even hit 35 yet!  I guess we are coming to the realization that prevention is much cheaper in the long run.
