Archive for January, 2007:
I recently purchased a Sedu hair styling tool, after I’ve heard so much hype about the Babyliss and Sedu hair dryers, I decided between the two and went with (the more expensive, unfortunately), Sedu hair dryer. I figured if I was going to spend $60-70 on a dryer, why not spend the extra money from there and buy something that I had complete confidence in as beign a good product.
Like a good beauty connesseur, I researched the Sedu dryer a lot, and found that this particular one, the Sedu Turbo Ionic Dryer, had gotten nothing but rave reviews by its users. In particular, people who used it said that they were amazed by how quickly their hair dried and how much additional shine the Sedu dryer seemed to give to their hair.
And they were absolutely right. Not only does my hair dry in what seems like half the time it used to, but it is noticeably smoother, instead of coming out looking like a dry haystack, which my hair is known to do right after blow dry. Now I’m not so reticent to wash my hair, since I know I can get it to look shiny and healthy after blowing it dry rather than dried out and dull, which was how my other dryers, even the other ionic ones I’ve purchased from beauty supply stores, had left my hair.
I’m not sure what Sedu does differently from other ceramic and ionic dryers, but it is clearly a superior product, and in my opinion, is worth the price I paid for it. Sedu flat irons also have a great reputation, and unfortunately I did not buy one, instead I tried to get something cheaper (see my previous review), and went with a higher end Conair, which I’m not happy with.
All in all, I can see why Sedu hair care products are all in the rage with the Hollywood crew, they really are a superior product that gives salon types of finishes. For more reviews on Sedu products, see Sedu Reviews.
I went to Target and was looking for a new flat iron. I thought about splurging and getting a Chi iron or a Sedu flat iron, but I’ve been splurging too much lately, so I exercised some restraint and went for a lower end iron. Since I usually use my large round curling iron to straighten my hair, I didn’t really know what I was looking for in a flat iron, except that I would like it to use ionic technology and be a ceramic plate.
I found a few, actually believe it or not, Target also sold the Chi flat iron, but that one was almost out. The flat iron I ended up settling on was a higher end Conair flat iron called the Infiniti. The one I bought had a skinnier plate, not the wider plate, because I wanted to be able to use it to curl my hair as well, so it was important that the straightening plates were skinnier and that the edges were rounded so I could create funky curls if I wanted to.
The Conair Infinit features a digital readout for the temperature, and has a cool silver futuristic look. I used it on its highest setting the few times I’ve used it so far, and I hate to say that I’m a little disappointed in its performance. It’s definitely “ok”, but I feel like now I probably should have just spent the extra $30-40 and gotten myself a Sedu or Chi iron.
The temperature says it’s about 400 degrees, but really it takes just as long to straighten my hair, and has about the same turnout as my cheapo flat iron which I threw away that cost about $15. I paid about $40 for the Conair Infiniti, which is a high price to pay for a Conair if you ask me. I did not notice any additional shine or smoothness, and I certainly did not notice any reduction in styling time. I’d like to say I can recommend this product, but I don’t think I can. It looks great, looks professional, but it just isn’t any better than a standard iron in my opinion.
A friend of mine told me about a Neutrogena line of acne products that specifically targets blackheads. Since I’ve always had a problem with blackheads around my nose area and on the bridge of my nose, I went out and bought the blackhead eliminating warming face wash for about $5 at a local Marcs store. I figured what the heck, if it didn’t work, I was only out about $5.
I’ve been using the warming blackhead eliminating cleanser by Neutrogena for about a week only now, and I only use it on my nose and on the area immediately surrounding my nose, namely the sides of my nose, where the blackheads are the worst for me. it does seem to be doing “Something”, although I’m not sure if it’s actually pulling the blackheads out and leaving enlarged pores, because my pores still seem to be enlarged, but the “black” part of the blackhead seems to be lighter or gone, if that makes any sense.
The cleanser definitely feels pretty cool when you slather it on. It’s got tiny little scrubbing beads in it, and it does warm ever so slightly, although very briefly when you activate it by rubbing it in to the skin. All in all, I think this was a decent purchase for the $5 it cost me. Again, I’m not so sure it’s taking care of actually closing up the pores after it helps dissolve the blackhead though.
I suppose an astringent applied afterwards may help since this does help seal the pores after they are opened. At the very least, you really should rinse with ice cold water after you use this cleanser to ensure the pores are sealed back up as well as they can be.
OK, after reading about this cellulite reduction and actual “fat” reduction product, I had to do a little more investigating. After all, I’ve gone to great lengths to reduce the cellulite on my butt and thighs, even getting Lypossage treatments, which definitely improved, but I still want something I can use on an ongoing basis that will help prevent and treat cellulite from coming back as well as keep it from “reappearing” as the stubborn stuff is accustomed to doing on me even after dieting and specific targeted anti cellulite exercising.
The Cellulean product must be fairly new, as I could not find a whole lot in independent reviews about it, on sites like Nextag, etc., but there is quite a bit in the way of clinical trials that says the technology that Cellulean uses should, theoretically work. Cellulean uses a patented blend which includes an ingredient called Aminophylline, which is actually an asthma drug. This asthma drug has been linked to a reduction in cellulite fat cells, but the problem was, there was not a way to deliver the ingredient fast enough so it could maintain its efficacy when it reached the fat cells that cause the puckered cellulite, transdermally.
The stuff isn’t cheap of course, as most patented beauty products are not due to the cost of patenting and manufacturing an exclusive product, so see the link to the cheapest place to get it on the internet that I’ve included at the end of this review to save some money (and read one lady’s review of her experience with Cellulean).
The Cellulean people say that they’ve come up with a patented transdermal delivery technique, the only of its kind, that has been clinically proven to deliver the aminophylline quickly enough that it not only shrinks the fat cells responsible for the look of cellulite, but it also prevents them from being “inflated” again by things like water retention. You know how when you’re retaining water, you notice your cellulite and general fat seems to look worse almost immediately? This is what they are talking about…
The claims of the product are that when administered its recommended two times daily to cellulite affected areas, Cellulean has been reviewed as being so effective that many women report actual “inches” lost on their thighs and buttocks from the fat cell shrinkage. These are pretty amazing claims, I must say.
However, I still endorse the Revitol cellulite treatment, since it actually gives before and afters, and I used it and got great results in cellulite reduction. Cellulean reviews have actually appeared on popular news programs as a new and effective way to actually transdermally (meaning a topically applied cellulite solution) treat and reduce cellulite, and also as an alternative to liposuction for women who want localized fat reduction.
So, if you wanna see where I found the best deal on the stuff (of course it’s not cheap to begin with), and an additional customer review from an independent user see this : Cellulean Review and Reduced Price

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Well, I know this blog is all about beauty, but a big part of beauty is fitness and weight control (at least being at a healthy weight). So, in honor of that part of the beauty spectrum, I’m sharing with you my plans to get back in the saddle with my healthier eating habits and fitness goals for the new year. And I’m starting them today…..or tomorrow, we’ll see
My goal as far as fitness it to do my Yoga at least twice a week. Yoga for me is really not about fitness, but more about emotionally centering myself and helping my body cope with stressors like physical stress and emotional stress that occurs both at work and at home. I find that Yoga helps me “breathe” through my stressful times, and research has shown that anxiety and stress actually cause you to breathe less. Breathing less causes less oxygen flow to the blood, which actually just makes anxiety worse. Anger follows, overeating can follow, any number of ways that you personally deal with stress and anxiety can follow.
My second fitness goal is to make sure I go to the gym at least 3 out of the 4 days I am at work, during the day, to break up the monotony of sitting all day, and also to help me deal with back aches and other muscle aches associated with sitting for over ten hours a day. Not only that, this will help me burn off calories and help me to regroup and make it through the rest of the day without killing someone or falling asleep.
As far as eating, I really want to start drinking more water with lemon in it (good for skin), and also to help cleanse my body, and I just want to increase my intake of fruits and veggies, which is something I have lost sight of over these past few holiday weeks, and boy has it shown in my skin and on my body. I’ve put on about five pounds, which should easily be shed in about a week or two of dieting, but I also notice that my muscle tone has suffered, so that will be a key priority for me to get my body back on track.
