Best Epilator Reviews

I’ve gotta be honest here, ever since I was about sixteen years old (yes, I used to try every beauty product under the sun back then too), I have been terrified of hair removal epilators.  So much so that even the best, most well reviewed epilators would not get my attention enough to buy one, because of a previous experience I had with one of the first majorly marketed epilators.

That epilator that incurred my fear of all epilators big and small was the Epilady.  It reinforced my idea that a high quality hair removal cream was the way to go for long lasting in-home hair removal.

It was put out by a company that had a small line of other “Epi” products, including a tooth whitener and I think some other things.  I think the company has since gone away, which was kind of a shame because the teeth whitener called Epi Smile was great.

However, their epilator was another story.  Pain cannot even begin to describe the feelings this thing gave when you used it on your legs.  And forget about your underarms, that would have been like pure torture with this crude epilator!

I remember I ended up getting rid of this product and selling it for a dramatically reduced price to a lady I babsat for who had been getting electrolysis on some of her body hair for years.  For someone who had gotten electrolysis numerous times, which is supposed to be painful, she thought she could handle it.  WRONG!  She said it was more painful than any electrolysis session she ever endured.  Anyways, you see why I was afraid of epilators.

However, ever since I broke down and bought the Braun Silk Epil body hair epilator, I’ve somewhat changed my tune on this more permanent form of hair removal and I think in theory it works well, although I do have a few complaints about it even though overall I give it a good review for what it’s supposed to do and can imagine that it is still probably one of the best epilators on the market.

The Braun Silk Epil epilator gets it’s rave reviews because it is a great little compact machine, it has a little light that can help guide you to finding those finer, more difficult to see hairs, and it employs a process that makes the hair removal all a bit easier by massaging the skin simultaneously as it plucks the hair from it’s follicle.  It does not completely remove the need for shaving however, which is where I got a little disappointed with it.

I had to use it several weekends simultaneously before I saw any improvement in the regrowth of my hair, and my hair still grows back fairly thick and course on my legs.  Also, I still get stubbly fairly quickly, although I’ll say it beats the razor hands down when it comes to a more permanent way to remove body hair.

Also, I’d recommend getting some sort of soothing agent for those who have sensitive skin or skin on the legs that is especially susceptible to getting razor burn – those nasty little red irritation bumps, which I happen to have a plethora of from using the epilator, but haven’t yet found a good soothing lotion that I want to use to help with it.

Phillips Norelco and Emjoi also have some epilators that have gotten some really good reviews on them from their users, so it would also be worth it to check those out.  The reason I ended up going with the Silk Epil by Braun was that it was, from what I could tell from the epilator reviews I read, the best one with the highest quality that didn’t cost a fortune, so it seemed a genuinely good buy for it’s use.

The only other complaint I have about using the hair removal tool is that it is somewhat time consuming to use each time, especially at first.  I am hoping that as I use it over time for longer and longer, it will trim down my time of use with each hair removal session, because right now I’m still at about twenty minutes for both legs.  I am pretty thorough though, so maybe I’m being a bit too picky.  Another thing I did notice is that the unit heats up when you use it for a while, say fifteen minutes or more nonstop, but other than that, this epilator seems to do it’s job.

For other ways to remove hair longer without shaving all the time see permanent body hair removal product that is used by bodybuilders and the like to get smooth and hair free skin quickly by actually disabling the follicle, not just pulling the hair out -so it lasts longer than shaving or epilating alone.  After all, who wants to spend most of their summer shaving and plucking?  I’ll be the first to admit, I absolutely HATE SHAVING any part of my body.  Who wants that rough, stubbly harsh looking hair that grows back after every shave?
