Herbal Skin Care Products
What is “herbal skin care”, and how can using these natural, botanical and herbal skin care products benefit your skin any more than good old, traditional, chemical and detergent laced skin care products?Well, first off, herbal skin care products actually are so gentle that almost any skin type can use them, in fact they come highly recommended for most skin types since herbal products do not contain the harsh detergents and abrasives in them that have long been known as allergens to the facial skin.
These potential allergens (which means irritants, or allergic-reaction producing ingredients) can actually cause further inflammation of the skin, making your skin look worse, and inflaming the outer layer of the skin, making it swell. This can trap dirt and bacteria, which leads to breakouts, and also can move the aging process along – all the big things we want to avoid doing to our skin.
Why do you think so many OTC skin care products today are now formulated with “gentle” formulas, or “for sensitive skin formulas”? There is definitely a reason. Someone, somewhere will not react well to these traditional creams, lotions and cleansers, and that’s why herbal skin care products are becoming so much more popular than they ever were – people are noticing their skin actually feels clean, healthy and more glowing usually when using these natural products.
Some of the more common herbs used in skin care are herbs that are known for soothing and calming properties, which means that they are ideal for those with skin conditions such as rosacea, acne rosacea, acne, sensitive skin, bags around the eyes, thin skin, aging skin, and European skin (which tends to be drier and less pigmented, due to being thinner and less resillient).
These skin types may find herbal skin care to be an ideal alternative to other harsher, over the counter skin care products that can be found at their local grocery or drug store such as Clean and Clear, Neutrogena, Aveeno, Johnson & Johnson, L’Oreal, Noxzema and other common skin care products that most of us are accustomed to, because we never really tried herbal skin care for our facial skin.
Some of the common ingredients you may find in herbal skin care products vary slightly per the specific agenda of the product. In an antiaging herbal skin care product, you may find therapeutic firming and topical antioxidant ingredients such as DMAE, concentrated vitamins, hyaluronic acid (which is an acid found in youthful skin which helps collagen stay bound together and produces a youthful, firm look), and other acids like alpha lipoic acid or alpha hydroxy acids.
Alpha hydroxies are actually somewhat outdated in herbal skin care now, and more favorable findings have been produced with the alpha lipoic variety, which is even touted and endorsed by some of the more famous and respected skin care specialists who help Hollywood actresses stay young looking and firm forever.
Acne and rosacea treatments may also contain some of these herbal ingredients, but to varying degrees. Mostly the acne and rosacea herbal skin care products would use more of the vitamins and antioxidants, since free radicals, which are destroyed by antioxidants, are what causes many skin conditions like this.
Many times there are also calming and soothing herbs and ingredients added to these types of specialized herbal products which will help internally “calm” the skin and help acne and rosacea clear itself up, using your body’s own natural defenses.
