How to Get Rid of Stretch Marks

One option for getting rid of stretch marks

Stretch marks are quite a source of stress and embarrassment for women who have had children, men and women who have gained and lost a lot of weight, and well, just anyone who happens to have some on their body due to the skin stretching and then snapping back at some point in their lives.

Unfortunately stretch marks are also somewhat challenging to totally get rid of without time, patience and consistency in using some of the spa quality products that are out there to help rid you of stretch marks.

Even a growth spurt in adolescence will trigger stretch marks.  I actually have an ex boyfriend who grew so tall in the span of one year of his adolescence, that he had stretch marks all around his thighs.

There are ways that a dermatologist or professional aesthetician can help you get rid of stretch marks, but it costs fairly dearly since the most advanced technology now is one that uses laser technology to help make skin in these affected areas go back to looking normal.

There are also a few good at-home creams that you may use to help get rid of stretch marks that we discuss here – stretch mark cream reviews.

The key to making these at-home remedies for stretch marks work is to make sure you rub them in for a good few minutes so that the product not only penetrates and goes to work, but also so that you are stimulating collagen to product by manually stimulating the area.

This manual stimulation not only helps to mend stretch marks and help the skin to appear normal again in the areas you need them to, but you can also use this technique on your face every night when washing to help keep the collagen coming.

What are some of the other mom and pop remedies that have been floating out there about how to get rid of or avoid getting stretch marks? Well, you have all probably heard the one about shea butter.

Shea butter is an extremely emollient ingredient that is often put into a creamy base to help heal dry, cracked skin.  It is a great moisturizer, but unfortunately has received mixed reviews as far as it’s ability to rid you of stretch marks. That being said, I love shea butter in the winter to put on my dry, red hands, it’s probably one of the best products for that.

Some people say that simply moisturizing the heck out of areas that you fear you might get stretch marks is enough. For example, if you are pregnant, by this theory, you would want to rub a heavy moisturizing cream on your entire belly every night, and probably layer it again after that.

The theory is that, since you have drenched your skin in moisture, it will retain a better elasticity, and therefore, your skin won’t experience the trauma it normally does from pregnancy, and when your belly “snaps back” after the baby is born, you won’t see those white and purple-pinkish marks that are the painful memory of having your skin stretched beyond capacity.

Using a product with peptides is a good idea, because peptides are supposed to help maintain the skin’s integrity, sort of like building blocks, so you can see why it may be very useful for preventing and treating stretch marks.  Stretch mark creams vary in their ingredients, but be sure to see if there are before and after pictures of real clients who have used the product. Also of course, price is going to be a consideration.

The better ones with higher concentrations of the right ingredients are going to cost you a little more than the cheapo versions that probably won’t do you much good, unfortunately that’s just the bottom line when it comes to most beauty type products.

If all else fails, you should see a dermatologist to see what type of options they have for you. Every office is different, and you never know who may be offering the latest in cutting edge technology for getting rid of these unsightly skin problems.
